About inflammation and inflammatory diseases

Inflammation is part of the body's defense mechanism. It is the process by which the immune system recognizes and removes harmful and foreign stimuli and begins the healing process1.

Under certain conditions, this inflammation can turn against our body and enter an abnormal phase for several weeks, several years or even a lifetime. This is then referred to as chronic inflammation. Inflammatory diseases can affect most organs and tissues of the human body including the digestive system, nervous system, epidermis and joints2.

People who suffer from it often experience suffering and may experience significant discomfort and restrictions in their daily life. The impact on the social, family and professional lives of patients and those around them is significant, especially when some of these diseases coexist. The psychological impact is also significant and adds to the burden of recurring physical suffering .
