The Amgen Foundation is deeply committed to reimagining and expanding access to science education. As Amgen’s principal channel for corporate philanthropy, the Foundation works with expert partners to provide best-in-class science education programs free of cost to teachers and students with the goal of advancing science literacy and inspiring the next generation of innovators.
For more than 30 years, the Amgen Foundation has focused on developing future scientists, raising scientific literacy and empowering tomorrow’s problem solvers. Our commitment is to inspire the next generation of scientists and future problem solvers — wherever they are. Guided by the belief that everyone needs science, and science needs everyone, our goal is to ensure that location and financial status are no longer barriers to high-quality science education. By broadening access to engaging and inspiring science programs, we are equipping future generations with the essential skills needed to thrive in our increasingly complex world.
Established in 1990, the Amgen Biotech Experience (ABE) is an innovative science education program that introduces secondary school/high school students to the excitement of scientific discovery and builds bridges between school and real-life biosciences. The program provides teachers with professional development, curriculum education materials, supplies and loans of research-grade equipment to high schools at no cost. Worldwide, the program has reached almost a million students to date.
In 2017, Amgen Foundation launched the Amgen Biotech Experience in Singapore in collaboration with the Science Center Singapore to provide local mainstream secondary teachers and students with professional development research-grade equipment and hands-on curriculum to transform biology education and to spark students’ love for science and discovery. Enriched by collaborations with LabXchange, the program incorporates simulations and virtual resources, making cutting-edge science accessible and inspiring the next generation of scientists and innovators.

Established in 2006, the Amgen Scholars Program is an undergraduate summer research experience hosted at more than 20 premier educational and research institutions across the United States, Europe, Asia, Australia and Canada. Participants benefit by conducting a research project under top faculty, participating in seminars and networking events and taking part in a symposium in their respective region. Throughout the program, participants meet peers, present their research findings, learn about biotechnology and hear from leading scientists. Financial support for students is a critical component of the program, which helps ensure that eligible students, regardless of income, can participate.
The Amgen Scholars Program, in partnership with the National University of Singapore (NUS), offers undergraduates from around the world the chance to engage in cutting-edge research projects during the summer. Launched in 2017 and expanded in 2018, this program provides valuable hands-on lab experience, allowing participants to work alongside leading scientists. Beyond individual learning, the program fosters a global network of scholars, promotes cross-cultural exchange, and helps develop a skilled workforce to advance the biotech industry.
